Couples Counseling

About Therapy

I strongly believe that therapy works. I provide Couples Counseling using a researched method that improves couples satisfaction with their relationships and their partners.

Common issues addressed in therapy:

  • Lack of intimacy/lack of closeness
  • Problems with sex
  • Affairs
  • Problems with money
  • Parenting
  • Growing apart
  • Loneliness

Principles of therapy

  • Therapy will be about your relationship and how to improve it.
  • I will listen to your goals and ideas about therapy and we will work from there.
  • I will listen to you both and support you both equally. You each have unique and often very different perspectives on your problems. I want to understand what it is like for each of you.
  • I primarily work in the present. We will look at present interactions, how they occur and how to change them.
  • Change is possible.

Therapy Style

  • I work from a systems perspective which means issues do not exist in isolation but in the context of families, communities, and cultures.
  • I am heavily influenced by Emotionally Focused Therapy, which recognizes how important our partners are, helps recognize and change negative cycles, and re-establishes supportive bonds between partners.
  • I use methods that are empirically validated by research to be effective for helping couples immediately with results that last.
